1Summary

I build real-time, event-driven and LLM-powered systems in TypeScript and Python, and I ship production sites for clients. Three of them are live today.

Core stack: TypeScript, Node.js, React and Next.js, Python with FastAPI.

2Projects

Four systems I designed and built. The code for all four is public on GitHub.

ResearchPilot

Grounded question answering over research papers.

Problem. An LLM answering questions about papers is only useful if each answer comes from real passages and cites them correctly.

Design (Figure 2.1). A question arrives from the Next.js chat UI at a FastAPI endpoint. Vector search and BM25 each return their top 20 passages, reciprocal rank fusion (k = 60) merges the two lists, and a BGE cross-encoder reranks them down to the 5 strongest evidence chunks. Gemini answers from those chunks as structured output that names the chunk IDs it used, and citation validation keeps only IDs the retriever actually supplied. Models and indexes load once at server start, and every response reports retrieval, generation and total latency.

  1. Questionfrom Next.js chat via FastAPI
  2. Splits into parallel paths:
    • Vector searchtop 20
    • BM25 searchtop 20
    Paths rejoin.
  3. Rank fusionRRF, k = 60
  4. Cross-encoder rerankBGE, keeps top 5
  5. Geministructured answer + chunk IDs
  6. Citation validationanswer, citations, latency
Figure 2.1 Retrieval and answer pipeline

Result (Table 1). I built a 40-question benchmark across 4 papers, with evidence labelled at document and page level. I tested 8 retrieval changes against it and kept the 2 that measurably helped. The final pipeline ranks the right evidence first for 62.5% of questions, and has it in the top 5 for 92.5%. Answer correctness isn’t benchmarked yet and is the next thing I’ll evaluate.

Table 1 Evidence retrieval accuracyShare of the 40 benchmark questions whose supporting evidence appears at rank 1, in the top 3 and in the top 5 retrieved passages. Final pipeline: hybrid vector + BM25 retrieval, RRF fusion, cross-encoder reranking.

Trado

A cryptocurrency exchange built from scratch.

Problem. An exchange has to match orders and push every change to traders the moment it happens, without waiting on the database.

Design (Figure 2.2). An API server validates each order, checks the balance and pushes the order onto a Redis queue, so the request returns at once. The matching engine consumes the queue and matches buy and sell orders by price-time priority, with full and partial fills, then publishes each trade over Redis pub/sub. Two services consume those events independently: a WebSocket server streams order-book depth, trades and prices to connected clients, and a database processor writes trades to TimescaleDB, off the matching path.

  1. API servervalidates, checks balance
  2. Redis queue
  3. Matching engineprice-time priority
  4. Redis pub/subtrade events
  5. Splits into parallel paths:
    • WebSocket serverstreams to clients
    • DB processorwrites to TimescaleDB

TriggerLab

Zapier-style workflow automation: one webhook trigger, any number of ordered actions.

Problem. When a webhook fires, its actions have to run in order, and the run can’t be lost if a worker crashes partway through.

Design (Figure 2.3). A hooks server receives the webhook and, in one Prisma transaction, stores the run and an outbox row. A database processor polls the outbox every 3 seconds, publishes each run to Kafka at stage 0 and deletes the rows it sent. A worker runs the action for the current stage, publishes the run again at the next stage, and only then commits its Kafka offset. Actions fill their fields from the webhook payload or the previous step’s output through templates such as {user.email}. Email and Discord actions work today, and a Solana transfer action is in progress. Users build workflows in a drag-and-connect editor (React Flow), behind JWT sign-in with email verification.

  1. Webhookhooks server
  2. Run + outbox rowone transaction
  3. DB processorpolls every 3 s
  4. Kafkazap-events
  5. Workerruns stage n, queues n + 1, then commits
  6. Actions in orderEmail, Discord

Monexo

A digital wallet with separate apps for users and merchants.

Problem. A wallet must never spend the same money twice, even when a transfer and a withdrawal hit the same balance at the same moment.

Design (Figure 2.4). Monexo is a Turborepo with a user app, a merchant app and a separate Bank Handler service that acts as a mock bank. Deposits go through the Bank Handler and update the balance inside a Prisma transaction. A withdrawal is validated, the amount moves into a locked balance, and the Bank Handler processes it. The balance is then deducted, or the locked funds are released. Users send money to each other by mobile number, and every transfer lands in their history. Users sign in with credentials and merchants with Google OAuth.

  2. Balance check
  3. Amount lockedPrisma transaction
  4. Bank Handlermock bank service
  5. Ends in one of:
    • Balance deducted
    • orLock released
